I'll
Vote For That
Setting the Bar High: The
city has been exploring ways to confront
bars
and create a safer environment for
families, while not overstepping
on businesses that play by the rules.
Solutions have ranged from requiring
new public safety permits to redefining
a bar and a restaurant. The latest
solution just might be the best.
The General Assembly could give the
city authority to get temporary injunctions
that stop bars from serving alcohol
while the ABC Board investigates
whether to revoke the license. This
solution seems the most narrowly
applied, and I can’t imagine
it being invoked except when the
case against the establishment is
firm. Assuming that it would be utilized
as a method of enhancing public safety
and not a targeted harassment tool,
the city needs a way to act when
state agencies fail to act quickly
enough. I’ll vote for that!
