I'll
Vote For That
Semantics Don’t Stop Gangs: "We've
got local groups that call themselves
Crips and Bloods, but there is not
a national affiliation," said
Deputy Chief James Cevera of the
Virginia Beach Police Department. "What
we want to do is educate the public." This
is an improvement over previous announcements
by our mayor and the Virginia Beach
police denying gang activity in Virginia
Beach. At one point it sounded like
Amity Island Councilmen telling Roy
Scheider there aren’t any sharks.
Playing word games with whether or
not the local Bloods have their national
affiliation current is not healthy
for our city. Every parent with an
eye on the neighborhood knows that
a gang with or without a national
connection is still a gang. Teenagers
across the city know who they are,
where they go, and what they do.
Tomorrow evening, the police will
host a forum to educate citizens
about gangs. I hope the mayor will
get behind this 100% and address
the problem head on before it gets
out of control. I'll vote for that!
