I'll
Vote For That
Good Health Care, Less Special Projects:
A standing-room-only crowd filled the Virginia Beach City Council chambers yesterday to speak against the proposed changes to the 2008 health care plan that council is considering. From what I can tell, our city employees are satisfied with their heath care benefits. That's rare in America, where the health care system is so broken that it will become a defining issue in the 2008 presidential election.
Chipping away at our city employee's health benefits in order to put more money into unneeded special projects and developer's pockets is misguided, harmful and another reason why we need a shift in leadership at City Hall. It is a breath of fresh air to find a group of employees satisfied and benefiting from their health care plan.
I hope Mayor Oberndorf supports the employees and directs Councilmembers to do likewise, so our loyal city employees can continue to have a health care plan that sufficiently aids them and their families. I'll vote for that!
