Better Grab Your Wallet

Ignoring Citizen Input Cannot Be Ignored:
It's turning out to be an interesting battle to decide who runs Virginia Beach -- the citizens and their elected officials or the developers. A robust and determined contingent of citizens along Shore Drive has told Mayor Oberndorf, City Council, and the Virginia Beach Wetlands Board that they do not want Indigo Dunes developed with 1,063 homes. The wetlands board respected that decision and voted against the project. But does it matter what the citizens want? Apparently not.

Through legal proceedings, L.M. Sandler & Sons has decided to try to push their way into a development that no one wants except them. At what point do you begin to question the kind of friends or associates you're doing business with? When a developer will not respect the wishes of the affected citizens and tries to lawyer it into being, it's time to look for new friends.

Mayor Oberndorf and City Council should do business with people who can win and loose with grace, and do what's best for our citizens. If our elected leaders go down the other path, you better grab your wallet!
