Thousands Of Residents Can't Be Wrong: There's a battle raging along Shore Drive between residents and developer L.M.Sandler & Sons over the proposed Indigo Dunes development. Both sides have created Web sites to make their cases: www.indigodunes.com and www.noindigodunes.com. The proposed development would add more than 1,000 homes to an already crowded Shore Drive. It also takes 69 acres of open space, threatening a fragile ecosystem of trees, woody vegetation and wildlife. The Sandlers say the development would generate revenue to pay for improvements to Shore Drive. Making a problem worse shouldn’t be part of solving it. The developer recently received a second delay of the Virginia Beach Wetlands Board hearing. The delay tactic is partly due to thousands of residents and land owners who've joined forces to state as clearly as possible to the mayor and city council, that they do not want this development to happen. With that kind of citizen will power, the development would not get my support.
